From the mouth of the rat...

happy birthday

Whilst we can’t exactly promise party rings, jelly & ice-cream or goodie bags overly brimmed with puzzles and crayons, what we can offer is considerably better than anything you’ve ever picked up before at someone’s 1st birthday party! What sort of party will it be without birthday cake for starters, huh?! Well, courtesy of Cupcakes & Dreambakes, the first twenty people through the doors will find themselves munching on their very own special Filmrats cupcake, whether you like it or not. What’s more, the first ten peeps in will also be given a set of our arse-spanking new badges; freshly baked by Andrew and I (BLOOD, SWEAT & BRAIN).

Alongside our usual batch of short-film goodness, we’ll have exciting live sets from some of Birmingham’s finest post-folk shizz (call it what you like, it’s still grandee). We’ve got James Rea returning once more with his humorous observational delicacies to delight us further. Having been described as “a soulful, jazzy musician, whose clever lyrics reminded me of a Brummie version of Alex Turner“ by Brum Live, we’re excited to see what he’s got up his sleeve this time round. Also set to perform is Tom Peel. Renowned for his eclectic tape-deck-strapped performances, we’re very eager to play witness to his set; “Louis-Theroux meets Moldy Peaches” according to the good people at The Fly, so make sure you don’t miss it.

Helping me spin Filmrats’ plastic [on an iPod...] will be Birmingham’s very own ska-punk rejuvenators Tempting Rosie. Brass-master Laurence Taylor has promised to slip in some ska/dance and the like to get people up and moving. So it’s simple, make good use of the popcorn and the steal-price drinks and celebrate the evening with us. What else is there to do on a Tuesday anyway...?

RSVP here peeps! Guess we’ll see you on the 25th... muchos love x
